The Question That Changed My Life: What’s Next for Me?
A soulful reflection on the quiet question that awakened purpose, possibility, and a new chapter.
There are moments in life that seem ordinary on the outside, yet are quietly transforming something within us.
For me, one of those moments happened in the shower of all places.
Around my 58th birthday, I found myself in a season of reflection. From the outside, life may have looked fine. But inside, I could feel a quiet ache for something more.
More meaning.
More joy.
More purpose.
More connection to the deepest part of myself.
Maybe you know that feeling too.
This inner voice is not always loud. Sometimes it arrives as restlessness. Sometimes, as a longing. Sometimes, there is a sense that the life that once fit no longer does.
One day, while standing in the shower, I asked God a simple but honest question:
What’s next for me?
I didn’t hear thunder. There was no dramatic sign.
Instead, as the cleansing water of the shower poured over me, a gentle question rose from within my soul:
What is your dream?
That question stopped me.
Not because I had an immediate answer… but because I realized I had stopped dreaming and no longer knew what that was.
Somewhere along the way, as so many women do, I had become busy with life, responsibilities, caregiving, work, and getting things done. My dreams had quietly moved to the background.
But in that shower moment, something awakened.
I remembered what my dream was. I realized that dreams do not expire. Purpose does not disappear with age. And the desire for something more is not a sign that something is wrong with me.
Perhaps this has happened to you.
Sometimes it is a sign, a message that something deeper is calling you forward.
That shower moment became the beginning of a new chapter for me.
It led me to dream again, and to create and co-author The Power of Inner Sparkle: 12 Inspiring Stories to Ignite Your Heart & Soul. It led me to found Heart & Soul Publishing. And it led me to this space, where I now get to encourage women who may be standing at their own threshold of what I call “midlife transformation,” or, better yet, “midlife Spark.”
And maybe that’s where you’re at, too.
Maybe life has been whispering to you.
Maybe you’ve been asking:
What’s next for me?
Is there more?
Am I too old or too late?
What is my purpose now?
Who am I becoming?
If so, I want to share this with you:
You are never too old or too late for your dreams.
Your dreams still matter.
Your voice still matters.
Your life is still unfolding.
Sometimes the question What’s next for me? It is not a crisis.
Sometimes it is a soulful invitation.
An invitation to listen more deeply.
To trust what is stirring within you.
To honor the season you are in.
To embrace your loving essence.
So today, I’ll leave you with this heartfelt reflection:
What is your soul asking of you right now?
With a grateful heart,
Bobbi Wilcox 💜
